Dance

Dance is the newest subject to be offered at GCSE at Broughton High School. It builds upon a foundation that is delivered at Key Stage 3 as part of the PE curriculum.

Dance lessons are delivered in our school gym, fitted with mirrors and specialist dance flooring. At Key Stage 3, pupils delve into a range of cultures and dance genres building up a repertoire of choreographic tools to develop their creativity.

For many years, Dance has been one of our most popular extra-curricular clubs in school attracting pupils from all year groups and inspiring them to develop a passion for dance.

The GCSE Dance course is designed to enable pupils to develop opportunities to become a performer, choreographer and to study the world of professional dance. This dynamic and expressive course allows pupils who are creative and artistic to explore dance culture.

Pupils are required to refine their technical, physical, expressive and mental skills to showcase performance of set choreography. In the second half of the course, pupils are given an insight into the world of choreography; selecting from set stimuli to become a choreographer. Over the duration of the course, pupils experience production and showcasing performance to a live audience.

Pupils will explore a range of dance styles and genres and enter a world of innovative and creative professional dance culture. Regardless of any background or prior experience in dance, pupils who are motivated and inspired by dance and the creative arts, will be captivated with this GCSE Dance course.
