The Modern Languages Department at Broughton is committed to the communicative approach to language teaching. This means that students are encouraged to communicate with their teacher and other students in the class using only the foreign language.
They are taught the language and skills needed for them to be able to do this alongside the content of the lesson. Classrooms routines are regularly used to teach grammar concepts and the skills needed for the demands of the new GCSE. Lessons are extremely active and all students are able to participate through the inclusion of a variety of fun, group work and pair work activities, games and team competitions.
In French students study for 2 hours/week in Key Stage 3 and study 5 hours/fortnight for Years 10 and 11.
There are regular spelling tests throughout the year and twice yearly, students are assessed in Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing.
