Science

In Science, we aim to deliver an engaging, inspiring and challenging curriculum that promotes skills of investigation, questioning analysis, and experimental techniques. The intent of the science curriculum is to develop all pupils’ understanding and love of science whilst igniting and maintain pupils’ curiosity about the world in which we live.

Approaches to Teaching and Learning in Science

With our broad specialisms in Science, the department is well-placed to deliver lessons that are designed to meet the needs, abilities and aspirations of every individual pupil.
Low-stakes testing and mini-whiteboards are consistently used in Science lessons so that teachers can gauge understanding and adjust lessons accordingly. Teachers model, demonstrate and prepare well-organised and safe practical activities. Pupils are frequently given the opportunity to reflect on and improve their work using the purple pen approach. Homework tasks are a mixture of online (SENECA) and written tasks.
