School Uniform and Equipment

Every pupil at Broughton High School must wear school uniform. This creates a strong ethos, a sense of identity and pride in the school. The wearing of school uniform helps to promote school values and discipline. It also creates a positive environment in which teaching and learning can be maximised.

Broughton uniform is as follows:

  • Navy School Blazer with logo
  • School tie
  • Navy V neck jumper with green piping and school logo (optional)
  • Coats need to be plain black or blue.


  • Navy pleated knee-length skirt with logo or navy school trousers with logo
  • Plain navy or black tights or plain navy socks
  • No ankle socks, no leggings or socks over tights
  • Plain white shirt with stiffened collar (not fitted)
  • Sensible plain black shoes, not canvas, no trainers, no logos (heel not to exceed 5cms)
  • Grey trousers with logo
  • Plain white shirt with stiffened collar (not fitted)
  • Plain black or grey socks
  • Sensible plain black shoes, not canvas, no trainers,no logos

Clothing for Physical Education

  • Navy and emerald Juco t-shirt with logo
  • Navy Juco shorts with logo
  • Navy Juco 2 in 1 shorts with logo
  • Navy performance swacket with logo (worn from Oct half term - Easter)
  • Navy school PE socks with emerald and white hoops
  • Pair of sports trainers (no pumps or Converse)
  • Shin pads
  • Mouth guard
  • Navy leggings with logo (optional)


* Pupils can wear skin tops that are black or navy in colour under their PE kit in the colder months. (Worn from Oct half term - Easter).

All items are compulsory except where it states ‘optional’.


The following are not permitted items of uniform:

Sweatshirts; hoodies; scarves; boots; trainers; tracksuit tops; baseball caps; denim or leather jackets.
Expensive designer coats/jackets should not be brought into school.

Coats need to be plain black or blue and not worn inside the school building.


All items of clothing and footwear should be clearly marked with the name of the pupil so they may be identified and returned if lost.

Jewellery is not allowed for reasons of safety except for wrist watches and a single pair of plain ear studs (no stretchers) as a maximum amount of jewellery. Any other facial or body piercing is not allowed.

Ensure hair colouring is natural. Extreme hairstyles, cuts and adornments are not allowed in school.

Nail varnish and nail extensions are not allowed in school.  Make up, including fake tan or false eyelashes should not be worn.  Pupils will be asked to remove these and a sanction will be given.  If fake tan, false eyelashes or make up cannot be removed, the pupils will work in our Reflection Room.


‘Nearly new and unused’ uniform shop in school

We are very mindful of the cost of uniform for families and at Broughton we have a ‘nearly new and unused’ uniform shop in school.  

If you would like to purchase items of uniform or PE Kit that are either unused or in good, used condition, for a small donation to our school chosen charity, please contact Mrs Dumbell at Pupil Reception (dumbellr@broughtonhigh.co.uk).

Scientific calculator (Casio FX-83GTCW and FX-85GTCW models.  The older Casio models FX-83GTX and FX-85GTX are also acceptable).

Glue stick

Pencil sharpener

Pair of compasses

Protractor

Reading book
