World Book Day 2026
This week we celebrated World Book Day with a range of activities taking place throughout the school. Pupils in Years 7, 8 and 9 attended assemblies that focused on the National Year of Reading mantra, “Go All In,” exploring how our hobbies and interests can be linked to our everyday reading habits. In KS3 English lessons, pupils also explored the benefits of reading for pleasure and discussed how reading can help to build empathy.
Pupils were reminded not to forget their £1 book tokens, and there were plenty of competitions to get involved in. Activities included designing a book token, the Big Book Quiz Extravaganza designed and led by Elmer in Year 7, and the incredibly popular “Guess the Book” breaktime hunt (all designed by our Reading Ambassadors). A real highlight of the week was the cake sale, again organised by our wonderful Reading Ambassadors. They put in an incredible amount of effort, producing a range of creative and delicious bakes which proved extremely popular. The sale raised over £200 for our school’s chosen charities this academic year. On World Book Day itself, all year groups took part in a shared reading experience, following a six-part story throughout the day, with the final instalment revealed in Lesson 5, complete with plenty of twists and turns. We concluded our celebrations today during form time with “Guess the Masked Reader,” which proved to be great fun for everyone involved. A special thank you goes to Mrs Whitlock and the Reading Ambassador team for their hard work in organising such a fantastic week. However, it has truly been a whole-school effort, and we are grateful to everyone who contributed. We can’t wait to celebrate again in 2027!
