Overview

At Broughton High School, we consider careers to be a lifetime aspiration, rather than simply a job. At Broughton pupils are encouraged to look at their career as an ever-changing journey, with high school at the start of it. During school pupils learn skills they may use in their career, and their experiences shape the career choices that they make. A well-developed and rounded careers programme is vital for all year groups as they navigate through five years in school. Pupils will gain experiences and encounters with various career experts in addition to developing their employability skills which empower our pupils to live happy and fulfilling lives.

At Broughton High School, we are proud to offer an impartial, bespoke, enriching careers experience across both KS3 and KS4.

As pupils progress through Key Stage 3, they will engage in multiple events per year that will develop their employability skills and inform their future aspirations whilst also being exposed to the variety of employment and training options post-16.

Key Stage 4 allows pupils to prepare for employment and further education through targeted employability events, mock interviews and trips to education providers and employers. All Year 10 pupils will undertake a work experience placement providing a valuable insight into the workplace and the world of work.

Informed by our destination profiles and the Gatsby Benchmarks, bespoke careers events are planned in collaboration with employers and enterprise organisations to provide expert knowledge on employability and career paths. Pupils are provided with ample support from school staff and are offered impartial careers advice.

Career North

We are delighted to have a collaboration with CEIAG experts Career North, whose details can be found here. Fahima Patel is with us on a Monday and Tuesday. Fahima offers 1-1 appointment to pupils. All pupils will have at least one appointment during their time at Broughton, timed when they most need it. Any pupil can book in for their own appointment or attend one of the drop-in sessions put on at lunch times. Fahima also runs workshops and supports us at Parents’ evenings and other careers events.
