U13 Girls - Indoor Cricket

On Thursday, 12th February, the girls’ U13 indoor cricket team played against Our Lady's, with the winner going through to represent Preston in the Lancashire finals in March. With many of the girls being new to cricket, we played a practice game first and Broughton won by 1 run! A very close encounter, and although Broughton bowled extremely well, it was clear Our Lady's had some excellent batting power at the top of the order. Next up was the qualifying game, so Broughton knew in order to win, they would have to limit the runs of the opening batters. Broughton went into bat full of confidence, with Maddie Monaghan and Charlotte Fitzgibbon smashing the ball out to get Broughton off to an excellent start. This continued through the middle order with Ambreen Valli, and Broughton posted a strong score of 50 runs.

Broughton now went out to field, and Hannah Baron produced some excellent bowling in the opening over. Two fantastic catches from Alisa Khmurchyk and Soreya Valli meant the dangerous batters from Our Lady's were out within the first 6 balls! Broughton grew in confidence, and throughout the 8 overs produced very few no balls and took 6 more wickets. Broughton's excellent fielding meant they limited Our Lady's to 38 runs, so the girls are now through to represent Preston in the Lancashire finals on the 10th March.

A huge well done to all the girls involved; it was a brilliant team performance and well deserved after their hard work and commitment in training.
