Sewing Bee at Broughton

During Sewing Bee, we have been busy (bees) making poppies for Remembrance Day.

You may have seen us wearing a white poppy, which is remembrance of all victims of war, challenging war and militarism, and a commitment to peace.

You may have seen the purple poppy which is worn to remember animals that have been victims of war. Animals like horses, dogs and pigeons were often drafted into the war effort, and those that wear the purple poppy feel their service should be seen as equal to that of human service. In particular, many horses were killed or injured in World War One.

Finally, you will see many red poppies, which is are the most traditional symbol used to commemorate those who sacrificed their lives in World War One and conflicts that followed. The Sewing Bee made poppies for pupils from Years 8, 9, 10 & 11 who represented our school at the cenotaph on Remembrance Day.
