Broughton High School

Achieving Together

Preston City Athletics Championships

This week, Broughton took part in the 50th Preston City Athletics Championships.  Pupils from Years 7, 8, 9 and 10 join together to compete in sprinting, middle distance runs, jumping and throwing events to find out the overall winners from all the secondary schools across the Preston District.

The competition is split into a U13s (Year 7/8) competition, a U15s (Year 9/10) competition and an overall winner.

After a hot day of competition and some amazing performances from a number of our male and female athletes, the U13s team came 1st overall and our U15s team placed second just behind Our Lady’s.

However, the overall winner was Broughton.  Personally I was so pleased with this result as Broughton has only not retained this trophy on two occasions since 2009.

The pupils who represented the school on the day really did exactly that.  They represented us not only with their sporting endeavour but also with their behaviour around the UCLan athletics track which was exemplary, and the way they encouraged each other as a team … they really were a credit to the school.
