Achieving Together

Extended Learning Morning for Year 9

Year 9 pupils recently took part in their annual Extended Learning Morning, a programme designed to support pupils’ growing independence and help them make informed decisions as they navigate their teenage years and the external influences they are often faced with. The session brought together a range of guest speakers, each covering a topic relevant to the focus of 'making the right decisions'.

  • Mr Church (Broughton) introduced the GCSE Options process, helping pupils understand the choices ahead.
  • The Vault, Preston’s state‑of‑the‑art activity centre, promoted health, fitness, and the opportunities available to stay active in their outstanding new facility.
  • Compass Bloom delivered a session on mental health, focusing on digital safety and building online resilience.
  • PC Lister discussed the risks associated with substance misuse, including drugs and alcohol.
  • The Department for Work & Pensions explained how young people can manage money responsibly, including savings accounts and recognising potential fraud.

The pupils were superb throughout. The guest speakers repeatedly praised the Year 9 pupils for their exemplary behaviour and their thoughtful, inquisitive engagement with each session. Well done Year 9!
